Blue Valley North nominated for Blue Ribbon award

The Blue Valley School District was recently notified that Blue Valley North High School has been nominated for the 2007-08 Blue Ribbon Schools Program. The Blue Ribbon Schools is a national program that honors exemplary elementary and secondary schools.

"We're very honored that the state department of education would recommend us for the Blue Ribbon Award," said Carter Burns, principal of Blue Valley North. "Our staff and students have had great academic success and we're thrilled to be considered for such an honor."

The program recognizes schools in three categories: schools in the top 10 percent in the state with at least 40 percent disadvantaged students, schools with at least 40 percent disadvantaged students that have dramatically improved student achievement, and schools in the top 10 percent of the state with fewer than 40 percent disadvantaged. Blue Valley North was nominated by the state as a school in the top 10 percent with less than 40 percent of disadvantaged students.

The final selection of Blue Ribbon Schools for 2008 will be made in September, 2008. Blue Valley North previously earned the Blue Ribbon award during the 1990-91 school year.

"We are so proud of the Blue Valley North students and staff," said Superintendent Tom Trigg. "This is a great reflection of the tireless efforts of our students and staff and validation of the work of the staff members at Blue Valley North who provide an Education Beyond Expectations for their students."
